How I began blogging alongside my full-time job
I published my first post on 20th October 2019. I have since pulled down the post because I decided to take a different route in blogging. To be honest, choosing a topic for your blog can be a daunting task but a very important step before starting a blog. If you get it wrong you will struggle all through the process and give up way too early.
In the beginning, I had settled for a topic blog that turns out I had little interest in. However, I have no regrets since it was a learning process.
What I blog about
I have since switched to Digital Resource KE. and my blog focuses on blogging Tips, technology, lifestyle, natural African hair, and self-development topics unique technology stories. Therefore, whether I’m writing about technology, hair, food, or career choices the end goal is to inspire young men and women who are looking for answers that are related to what I blog about.
So what happened before blogging?
To begin with, I planned to start blogging in April of 2019 but the plan got canceled. I was scheduled for surgery in June of the same year and the 2 months prior to the surgery were spent worrying and panicking about how the surgery would turn out. It turned out it was bearable.
This was my first surgery and on my eye(more reason to panic and begin imagining the impossible things). I put my website plan on hold. The surgery I underwent is called crosslinking, an eye surgery performed on those with Keratoconus with an aim of slowing down or stopping the progression of the disease in the cornea.
Is my blogging plan coming along?
I would like to point out the fact that blogging isn’t for the faint-hearted. It also required sufficient patience. When you come across a well-done article with captivating visuals, do you stop to think about the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes? Trust me, it takes a lot of time and dedication to create any content.
My plan when I started this blog was to be publishing posts on a weekly basis because I have a day job and most of the time I fail to do that. The truth is that you don’t just wake up and write something and put it up for people to read. No, it doesn’t work that way. A number of things play the part.

Blogging is self-taught
I have been learning on the job: how to use WordPress which I’m now a pro at working with. Usually to run a blog you need a Content Management System(WordPress), a hosting company, for example, Bluehost, and a domain name. Those are the basic things you need to start. In addition, it’s important to understand what blogging is and why you are blogging.
We all struggle with our passions
I cannot fail to say that running a personal blog on one’s own isn’t easy. No, it requires discipline, hard work, and consistency. I still have an 8 am to 5 pm job so putting aside time to work on my blog is still a struggle.
Photoshoots for my blog posts
I’m stuck at doing photo shoots. As a blogger, this is part and parcel of our work especially if your niche is fashion, lifestyle, food, or travel among other niches. Well-done visuals improve the general outlook of the blog and drive more traffic to a blog. If you want to venture into blogging, find someone like a friend or partner to take great pictures for you or look for an affordable professional photographer.
How has it been designing my blog own blog?
Although I’m trying to figure out ways to improve on certain features of my blog especially the appearance, I’m thrilled that I aced a number of things and I have learned how to use 95% of the features in WordPress. During my free time, I also watch videos that talk about the best blogging and the likes.
Social media presence is very important for any blogger. It is wise to establish a social media presence across the major platforms like Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter from the word go and don’t really worry about the number of followers or engagements in the beginning.
I blog using WordPress which a very user-friendly Content Management System(CMS). What I like about WordPress is that it is very flexible and allows one to embed their social media profiles within their blog. Besides, it also comes with a number of plugins that publishers can use to add more appealing features to their sites.
What I have learned so far
In summary, I would say blogging is a cheap online business you can start since it requires little capital. Although it requires a lot of hard work, time, and dedication in the beginning, the returns are hefty and worth toiling for.
