Start a Blog-Things to do during the COVID-19 pandemic period

This is not the 2020 we all expected. Some of us couldn’t wait to bid goodbye to 2019 and just completely dust it off. I am one of those people. Little did we know what awaited us in 2020, the year we really looked forward to. The COVID-19 pandemic has crippled the entire world. We have lost millions of lives. The question that still lingers in everybody’s mind is whether this will be the new way of life but also for how long? With that said, what are some of the things you can do to keep yourself busy during COVID-19 pandemic period.

Faces hidden under masks

Do you look around especially on the streets and miss the smiles you were fond of seeing for the longest period? The smiles you once took for granted. Well, this is a lesson that we take so many things for granted and believe they are our rights. When you hear somebody say ‘after COVID’ do you ever wonder when this will be? I do.

In this post I will share some of the things that have kept me very busy during the COVID-19 pandemic period and that I would advise you to try as well. The year 2020 is not a waste if you decide it’s not. No it is not. It all depends on how you want to look at the situation. My advice to anybody would be to take advantage and make proper use of the extra time we have during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Starting a blog is one of the inexpensive ways you can make money online. You will not make money immediately you start a blog but the end results are worth the time you spend writing and publishing posts.

Start a blog

Starting a blog is one of the inexpensive ways you can make money online. You will not make money immediately you start a blog but the end results are worth the time you spend writing and publishing posts. It’s about 10 months since I started my blog and I must say that I’m still learning a lot of things. I have extra time because I don’t commute to work on a daily basis during the COVID-19 pandemic period .

Before the COVID-19 pandemic life was busy and at its peak, and I barely got enough time to put a post according to the schedule I had set considering the fact that I have a full-time job other than blogging.

Learn a new skill

You may choose to learn a new language for instance during the COVID-19 pandemic period. I keep hearing many stories of people who are qualified for a certain job but miss out because they aren’t proficient in a certain language that’s key to the position they applied for. Being conversant with a second language apart from your mother- tongue and Swahili (I’m African and most of us know at least 3 languages) is a competitive advantage in the employment world. In the competitive job market, most employers are looking for that extra skill that makes you stand out from the rest of the candidates.

Take advantage of the moment

Take advantage of this time and learn a new language especially that language that you have always longed to know. You never know when opportunities will come knocking at your door. This is the time. There’s a lot of information online that’s at your disposal. I have been studying French for the better part of the year and my classes are now online because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Technology has really revolutionized and come in handy during the COVID-19 pandemic. What would we do without the Zoom meetings?

Work on your CV/Resume

Most us begin editing our CVs the moment we see a job opportunity that we would like to apply for. Because of the anxiety and the pressure to meet the deadline, most people end up submitting substandard CVs with spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and even poorly designed layouts that don’t match the professional standards in the job market today. Therefore, if you are actively looking for a job and never been lucky or if you want to switch jobs, take advantage of this time when there’s very little happening and craft an excellent CV that leave your future employer with no choice but to invite you for that job interview.

Update your my Linkedin profile

If you want to stay relevant in the job market today and learn from different professionals, Linkedin is a must. In fact, most people land jobs today through Linkedin. How often do we get time to update our Linkedin profiles. Linkedin is the largest social professional network. If you are a professional who is determined to grow or a job seeker who is hoping to find a job then Linkedin is not an option. I have been contacted through Linkedin by potential employers. Sign up for an account if you don’t have one and start growing you network. You never know. For those who already using the platform, make sure your profile is up to date.

Read Books

Reading opens the closed pores in our minds. I have gained a wealth of knowledge just by reading. You don’t need to read 10 books in a month but one at a time but consistency is key here. I recently completed this book that I really enjoyed reading every chapter. The book have been reading is called ‘No Place Like Home’ by Fern Michaels, this was a great read I swear. Before that I read ‘The Lovely Bones’ by Alice Sebold. That’s my namesake right there. Right now I’m on ‘Silent Child’ by Sarah A. Denzil. Which books have you been reading this year? Below is an audio version of Michelle Obama’s ‘Becoming’ that’s worth listening to if you are the kind of person who is not into reading but love listening.

For those of us who are into listening to endless romance stories, you are definitely not left out.

Catch up with loved ones

This is the time to use the extra time you have on your plate to reach out to loved ones and family. We at times get so immersed in our daily life activities and chasing our dreams that we forget to spend time with those that matter to us. Take an advantage of this time because most of the social places like church, hotels and bars are closed at the moment.

Reflect on your Purpose

Life is a puzzle because one moment we are at our peak and the next moment we are crumbling down. Which adult hasn’t experienced this puzzle? Raise your hand. It is important for each one of us to take time and understand the point of we are in. From there we will be able to focus on improving different aspects of our lives. Knowing and understanding who you are as an individual is key to personal growth.

We take tie to reflect on our purpose during the COVID-19 pandemic period.

Organize your Space

Use the extra time tidy up my space. Having a neat place makes us more organized and clears the mind off distractions. It is a privilege to return home to a neatly made bed, organized living room and clean bathroom.
